Hi! I was introduced to the game during Covid (looking for something new like many of us). My wife and both my young kids were playing A LOT, they got bit by the pickleball bug (again.. like many of us). I started to quickly realize that if I didn't start playing more, I would continue to get beat constantly my wife and my kids. I'm too competitive for that (like many of us...) so that's how it began! It has been a super fun family thing we get to do together and the local community of players are phenomenal. We have met so many amazing people and helping do our part to "grow" pickleball in Tri Cities has been a perfect way to spend our free time, I'm blessed and glad to be a part of it!

Vice President
I grew up in the Tri-Cities and attended Kamiakin High School, college took me to University of Hawaii at Manoa. After college I got married to my wife (Ann) and settled into a career. We have 2 young children (9 & 12) which love pickleball and sports in general. I was first introduced to pickleball in late 2019 and like many others started playing during the Covid shutdown. We jumped in taking lessons, playing rec, tournaments, and are now some of the ones training up the next generation. We play all over: CBRC, LSP, & Claybell, wherever the group wants to go. I have accepted the invitation to serve on the 509 board because I have made so many friends while playing and simply want to grow the game and share this passion of mine.

Secretary
“Hi! I’m a Tri-Cities native (Burbank), married with three kids. I started playing pickleball casually with friends in January 2024 and fell in love with the game immediately. As someone who’s naturally competitive and loves being social, pickleball quickly became the perfect sport for me. Since then, it’s become a big part of my life—from tournaments and private lessons to leagues, rec play, and watching PPA/MLP on the weekends. I’m excited to now give back by serving our local pickleball community. See you on the courts!”

Spencer H.

Treasurer
I’m an entrepreneur, family man, former marathoner, and now pickleball enthusiast. I grew up in Mesa, AZ but moved to the Tricities with my wife (who is from Kennewick) in 2008. We have 4 children (with our 2 oldest in college). After getting an MBA and working in banking for 8 years, I decided corporate life was not for me. I’ve now been a full-time entrepreneur since 2011, starting, growing, and selling online businesses. I’ve run 16 marathons, but after running the Boston Marathon in 2023, I decided it was time to hang up the running shoes. I picked up a pickleball paddle and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Membership Director
Hello! I came to TriCities in 2016 and grew up in Yakima. In January of 2021 I broke my arm and after a few months I was looking for something to keep me active that wouldn't be too hard on my recovering arm. My friend Kom asked me one day as we were working "have you ever tried the game pickleball?" I laughed and told him that has to be the silliest name I've ever heard. After playing a few times it grabbed me, I couldn't stop playing. I'm huge into the community whether it's making friends, being challenged, or helping people progress their skill in the game. My mission is to continue to bring in as many people as I can to grow the community in our area.

Communications Director
As a Pasco kid growing up in the ’70s and ’80s, I played all kinds of sports and had the best time. Jump ahead to 2024—after marriage and two grown kids—I was looking for new fun and new friends, so I returned to sports. Curious about pickleball, I mustered some courage and dropped by LSP, where I had a chance encounter with Dylan, who suggested I start with a Sporthaus paddle trial. Soon after, I joined Dave Kelly’s morning beginners class, where I learned I needed court shoes (safety first!), mastered the rules and scoring, and quickly fell into the rhythm of the welcoming TC pickleball community. I was hooked, just ask anyone I talk to on a day-to-day basis (enough already about pickleball, Angie!). Now I’m a Club 509 board member, helping share this awesome sport with others. Off the court, I run a wealth management firm advising retirees. I love escaping to warm-weather destinations and have started planning my travels around pickleball, paddle in tow.

Social Coordinator
I picked up pickleball in the summer of 2024 when my work-life balance finally clicked, giving me more time to focus on the “life” side of things. Initially, I swapped some gym time for pickup games at the park. But within just a few months, the competitive energy had me hooked—leading to a lot more play than I ever anticipated! I’ve met so many incredible people along the way. I truly love pickleball for both the social side and the gameplay. As someone who thrives on making connections, I’m excited to help build a strong, welcoming community around the sport.

David S. Kelly

New Player Development Director
Dave is a lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities. Retired, he and his wife Kelly have a passion for active sports. For two plus years, he's taught the club's 8 am Thursday Pickleball 101 Class at Lawrence Scott Park. He loves to volunteer and enjoys watching new players advance their skills. Having taught close to 200 students to play pickleball, Dave's classes are welcoming and encourage the growth of new friendships Our love of the game lead us to start Club 509 Pickleball; Knowing that as the sport grew in popularity we would need a voice in the community to advocate for adequate court facilities. With the huge growth locally in our sport we find ourselves in need of more courts and it is my hope that Club 509 can help get that done.

John E.

Maintenance Director
Chances are you've seen John out on the courts, he always enjoys cracking a funny joke or over analyzing any solution because.... well.... that's what engineers do. John is retired and is a huge staple to this pickleball community and his relentless offering of his time to keep Lawrence Scott Park in pristine playing condition shows. If you see John out there, thank him!

Hello! I moved to the area in November 2020. I grew up in Northern California, lived in Tennessee for 4 years, and made my way back to the west settling here in the Tri-Cities for work. I picked up a Pickleball paddle for the first time in early 2020. When my husband and I moved here, we stumbled upon a "Beginners night" at Lawrence Scott Park and were warmly greeted by other club members who showed us the ropes. I really appreciated the welcoming community the club members offered us when we were new. I look forward to serving on the board, introducing others to the game, and seeing all of you out at the courts!
