Master the Game: Pickleball 101 with Club 509

Are you looking to join the fastest-growing sport in the Tri-Cities and in the nation? Whether you’re a complete novice or just looking to sharpen your fundamentals, Club 509 Pickleball has the perfect entry point for you. We are proud to offer our signature Pickleball 101 clinics—the Tri-Cities’ favorite way to get “court-ready” in a fun, supportive environment.

Learn from the Best: Thursday Mornings with Coach Dave Kelly

If you’ve spent any time around the Lawrence Scott Park (LSP) courts in Kennewick, WA, you’ve likely heard of Coach Dave Kelly, (in the above video). As a dedicated Club 509 board member and local pickleball advocate, Dave has introduced hundreds of players to the game.

His Thursday morning sessions are more than just a lesson; they are a Tri-Cities institution. Dave focuses on:

  • Safety & Gear: Why court shoes are a non-negotiable for injury prevention.
  • The Fundamentals: Mastering the serve, the return, and the “dink.”
  • Game Logic: Navigating the “Kitchen” (Non-Volley Zone) and understanding the unique scoring system.
  • Local Etiquette: How to use the paddle rack system and join the local community with confidence.
  • Coach has paddles and balls you can use and he’ll get you playing within the hour.

And, bonus, classes are free!

New! Tuesday Evening 101 Sessions

We know the 8:00 AM weekday slot doesn’t work for everyone. To meet the high demand for beginner pickleball lessons in Kennewick, we are thrilled to announce an additional Tuesday Evening 101 Class!

Led by a rotating team of experienced Club 509 volunteers, these evening sessions offer the same high-quality instruction in a format that fits your work schedule. It’s the perfect way to burn off some stress and meet new playing partners under the lights.

Why Choose Club 509 for Your First Lesson?

Joining a 101 class isn’t just about hitting a ball—it’s about joining a community. When you learn with us, you get:

  1. Expert Guidance: Avoid developing “bad habits” early on.
  2. Social Connection: Many of our 101 graduates go on to form their own regular playgroups.
  3. Local Knowledge: Learn the “unwritten rules” of the Tri-Cities courts so you feel like a pro from day one.

Pro Tip: Classes are held at Lawrence Scott Park, typically near Court 15 and generally run from April to about November. Always check the Club 509 Facebook Page for weather updates and seasonal time changes!

Ready to Pick Up a Paddle?

Don’t let “score-phobia” keep you off the courts. Whether you join Dave on Thursday mornings or our volunteer crew on Tuesday nights, we’ll have you dinking like a pro in no time.
